Save Your File in CSV Format
If you're not sure how to create a .csv file, read this article: Save a workbook to text format (.txt or .csv)
Format Your Data Correctly
For this section, we need to look at your list settings page. Go to the deal list you want to upload to and press the list settings button in the upper right-hand corner.
If you are creating a new deal list, create and format the new list first in list settings, then come upload your .csv file. (To create a new deal list, click the 3-dot menu - next to the list settings button- then select "create new list")
Check for Required Fields
Open up the Advanced section of each of your fields to see if the field is "required". If the field is required, you will need to have data to map to that field in the .csv upload process.
Format Tags
If you want to include tags for your deals, the tags must be separated into individual columns or by commas.
Single and Multi-Select Fields (Fields with the Option button next to it)
Single select and Multi-Select Fields will have a blue "Options" button in its row. The values you upload to that field must match the values exactly in the Option Modal - otherwise, that data will not be uploaded.
For example, if I tried to upload the word "Remote" or "Remotte work" to this field, it would not be imported.
Associated Contacts Field
You can upload contact names or email addresses to this field. If you add the name of a contact that doesn't exist in your 4Degrees team contacts, a new contact will be created.
Contact References
You cannot upload email addresses to this field. If you want to upload contacts to a contact reference field, the data must be a contact name.
Date Fields
Look in the type column for the word date. If you are importing values that have a field type of date, follow the instructions below.
- Look at the column in your .csv file that matches the 4Degrees date column and make sure that all the data in that column is in month, day, year order.
Number
Look in the type column for the word number.
If you are importing values that have a field type of number, follow the instructions below:
- Look at the column in your .csv file that matches the 4Degrees number column and make sure that all the data in that column contains only numbers.
Currency
Look in the type column for the word currency.
If you are importing values that have a field type of currency, follow the instructions below:
- Look at the column in your .csv file that matches the 4Degrees currency column and make sure that all the data in that column contains only numbers or currency symbols.
- Now take a look at the currency symbol that is next to the word currency. In our example, it is $. This is the currency symbol you have chosen for this field. Make sure your import values are in this currency.
Percentage
We are still on the List Settings page in 4Degrees. Look in the type column for the word percentage.
If you are importing values that have a field type of percentage, follow the instructions below:
- Look at the column in your .csv file that matches the 4Degrees percentage column and make sure that all the data in that column contains only numbers or the percentage symbol %
Header Row
If you have a row with header fields (e.g.. Name, Number of Employees, Website), make sure that this is row 1 in your .csv file.
In this image, the highlighted row contains headers; we will use that information to help import your deals into 4Degrees. If the header row is located in row 2, the import will not work properly.
If you do not have a header row, that is fine and the upload will work properly.
Double Check your Data
Delete Unnecessary Information
Delete any information that you don't want to import into 4Degrees. It's much easier to delete it from your .csv file than it is to delete it from 4Degrees!
Double Check Your Data
Double-check that all your data looks right. Do the names and email addresses match? Do you have any duplicate deals? Correct mistakes before you upload them.
Import
Save the changes you made to your .csv file and follow the instructions to import your .csv file!
Mapping Multiple Columns to One Field
Tags and multi-select fields can be mapped to multiple times. All other fields can only be mapped to one time.
Some Fields Cannot be Uploaded via .csv
Linked Deals, and Formula files cannot be uploaded using .csv uploader.
