Record Report: Grouping Options

One of the main ways to perform analysis on your deal or list data in 4Degrees reports is through "grouping" (or organizing) the data differently.  Through the use of our "Group" function, your team can answer questions like:

  • How many opportunities did our team see this year, and how does that compare to prior years? (Grouping your list by "Date Received", by year)
  • What industries are we seeing the most opportunities in? (Grouping your data by "Tags" or by a custom single select field)
  • What geographies are our portfolio companies most heavily concentrated in? (Grouping your data by "Location")
  • Which opportunity sources are sending us the most opportunities? (Grouping your data by "Source")
  • Who on the team has the most robust pipeline (Grouping your data by "Assigned To")

Our deal reports typically default to grouping your deal list data by "Stage", if that field is enabled, and "Assigned To" if a stage field is not enabled.  To change how a report is being grouped:

1. Starting on a record report, click the "Group" button at the top of the report:2. In the drop-down menu that appears, select the attribute that you would like to organize your data by and click "Apply" (depending on the field type, you may be given a secondary option to choose from - e.g., for "Date Received", it will ask you if you'd like to group the dates by year or month):

3. Your report will now appear organized by the field you selected in the prior step.  From here you can save the report if you plan to revisit it regularly (using the "Save" button in the top right) or customize it further (e.g., filtering out values, editing columns, changing the visualizations or chart values).

Notes:

  • You are currently unable to group a report by the following field types: Text, Long Text, Formula, Contact Reference, Last Viewed, and Multi-Select
  • Grouping by a numerical field (e.g., a custom currency or number field, Days in Stage, Total Funding) will try to group the range of numbers represented in that field by categories (e.g., 0 to 10, 11 to 20).  So in these cases, you'll see something like "5 opportunities between 0 to 10 Days In Stage".
