Step 1: Account Registration and Log in

Getting started with 4Degrees begins with setting up your account. This article will walk you through both standard registration and Single Sign-On (SSO) setup processes.

Before You Begin

You should have received an invitation email from your team administrator or the 4Degrees team. This email contains your personalized setup link.


Standard Registration Process

1. Access Your Invitation

  • Click the invitation link that was emailed to you
  • If you can't find the email, check your spam folder
  • The link is personalized to your email address

2. Enter Your Email Address

  • Your email should be pre-populated from the invitation
  • If not, enter the email address that received the invitation
  • This will be your primary login email for 4Degrees

3. Create a Secure Password

Password Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 characters
  • Include uppercase and lowercase letters
  • Include at least one number
  • Include at least one special character

Password Tips:

  • Use a unique password you don't use elsewhere
  • Consider using a password manager
  • Write it down securely until you memorize it

4. Complete Your Profile

You'll need to fill out several fields to personalize your 4Degrees experience:

What is your full name?

  • Enter your complete legal name
  • This appears on your profile and in team directories

What should we call you?

  • This is your preferred name for emails and casual references
  • Example: "Robert" vs "Bob" or "Elizabeth" vs "Liz"

What industry are you in? Choose the option that best describes your work:

  • Venture Capital - For VCs, seed funds, growth equity
  • Investment Banking - For investment banks, M&A advisors
  • Private Equity - For PE firms, growth equity, buyout funds
  • Corporate Development - For corporate BD and strategic partnerships
  • Consulting - For management consulting and advisory firms
  • Other - For other professional services

What city are you in?

  • Enter your primary business location
  • This helps with geographic filtering and networking

5. Complete Registration

  • Review all information for accuracy
  • Click "Continue" or "Complete Registration"
  • You'll be taken to the next setup step (Privacy Settings)

SSO (Single Sign-On) Setup

If your organization uses SSO, the process is simpler:

1. Visit Your Custom Domain

  • Go to your-company.4degrees.ai (your admin will provide this)
  • Or use the SSO link provided by your administrator

2. Enter Your Work Email

  • Use your corporate email address
  • This should match what's configured in your SSO system

3. Authenticate Through Your SSO Provider

  • You'll be redirected to your organization's SSO login
  • Enter your corporate credentials
  • Complete any two-factor authentication if required

4. Complete Profile Setup

  • You may still need to fill out industry and location information
  • Some fields might be pre-populated from your SSO profile

Troubleshooting Common Issues

"Link takes you to the login page"

  • Your team may have used our sandbox account- make sure you log out before clicking on the link again
  • Try using an incognito window to register
  • Contact support if you need further assistance

"SSO Not Working"

  • Verify the domain - Make sure you're using the correct company domain
  • Check your corporate email - SSO is usually tied to specific email domains
  • Contact your IT department - They may need to configure access

What Happens Next?

After completing registration, you'll be guided through:

  1. Privacy and Sharing Settings - Configure what information you share with teammates
  2. Email Sync Setup - Connect your Gmail or Outlook account
  3. Contact Import - Add your professional contacts

Important Notes

Account Security:

  • Your account is protected by enterprise-grade security
  • Enable two-factor authentication if available
  • Never share your login credentials

Team Setup:

  • Your administrator controls team-level settings
  • Some features may be enabled/disabled by your admin
  • Contact your admin for permission-related questions

Data Privacy:

  • 4Degrees follows strict privacy and security standards
  • Your data is never shared outside your organization
  • You control what information you share with teammates
