How are Companies Created?
TL;DR Companies can be created from contact jobs, deals, manual entries, deleted jobs, deleted deals, and more.
Companies are Dynamic
The companies page is a dynamic set of data. It changes when contacts are pulled in from email and calendar interactions. It changes when you add a deal with a new company. It changes when you delete a deal or a contact. The companies page data is always changing and reflects your current relationship with each company.
Consider Using a Deal List
If the dynamic state of companies isn't helpful to you, you'll want to create a deal list. A deal list is a static list of companies that you have a relationship with; this data will not change unless you (or a member of your team) deliberately change it.
How Contact Jobs Affect Companies
New Contacts = New Companies
When you email back and forth with "Joe" for the first time, we will pull Joe into your 4Degrees contact list. We will also enrich Joe's contact page with different data like his location, tags, and work experience. If Joe works at Target, we will add Target as a new company on the company list page. If the company Target already exists on your companies list, we will add Joe to the existing company page.
Deleting Contacts = Empty Companies
If you delete Joe, or if you delete the data about his job at Target, we will not delete the Target company page. Instead, that company page will not have Joe listed as a contact. This is one reason why some companies might feel bare or empty.
How Deals Affect Companies
When you add a new company deal to 4Degrees, a new company page will be created. (Note: this is not true if you are creating a contact deal in 4Degrees) If you delete that deal, later on, the company page will still exist in the company list. This is one reason why some companies might feel bare or empty.
How Manual Entries Affect Companies
Manually creating a company will add a company to your company list. Manually adding a job to a contact can create a company page (or add a contact to an existing company page).
