Duplicate Companies
The Companies List is Dynamic
The companies list is a dynamic set of all the relationships you have with companies across the team; because of this, duplicate companies are not uncommon. There are many reasons why companies get created, and the relationship between your contacts, deals, and companies are always changing. Trying to "clean" the companies list data is not advised, because as new contacts are pulled in and new deals are created, the companies list will change. If you want a static list of your relationship with a set of companies, we recommend using a deal list.
How 4Degrees Keeps your Data Clean
While we admit the companies list will never be perfectly "clean", we do try to keep the companies list as clean as possible. Every night we run a process that finds and merges duplicate companies. That's why you might see a duplicate company one day, and then you might not be able to find it the next day. We try to find any annoying duplicates and fix them as soon as possible.
In some cases, two companies have similar names, but they are actually different entities. For example, JP Morgan Chase and JP Morgan Chase NA are different legal entities. In cases like these, we will always keep legal entities as separate companies. If you'd like to merge then you can do so yourself.
How to Merge Duplicate Companies Yourself
If you notice duplicate companies you can merge them, but be careful when doing this - this process can't be undone.
