Deal Lists as Pipelines

Some deal lists contain deals that are moving through a pipeline to an end goal. For example, let’s look at the list “Fundraise Tracking.”

This is a list of contacts and companies our team has been talking to about contributing to our next fund. You can see above that we have companies and contacts in this list.

You can also see that the deals in this list are moving through a set of stages we identified for LPs called the “LP Stage.”

For this Fundraise Tracking list, we chose to call our stages: Initial Contact, 2nd Meeting, Data Room Received, Due diligence, Legal, Initial Closing, Closed, Revisit for Next Fund, and Pass. You can customize these stages for each of your deal lists. If you’re a 4Degrees Admin, you can customize the stages by selecting "List Settings".

Other examples of Deal Lists that move through a pipeline include:

  • Potential candidates for hire
  • Deal Flow (for Venture Capital)
  • Tenant tracking (for a property for CRE)
  • Acquirers (for a given M&A transaction)
  • Opportunity Tracking (for Consulting)

Lists Without Pipelines

Now let’s look at an example of a list where the deals aren’t moving through the pipeline.

Our Portfolio Companies list contains companies that we have invested in. Portfolio companies aren’t moving through a pipeline anymore, but it still makes sense to have them in a deal list. Relationships with portfolio companies are very important, so tracking the portco companies in this way makes sense.

For this list, we have turned off the “stage” field. Instead, we are looking at data like “2020 Revenue” and “Valuation”.

Other examples of Deal Lists that don't move through a pipeline include:

  • Service Providers (law firms, accountants, investment banks, design shops, coding shops)
  • Potential Acquirers
  • Potential Customers

Customize Your Deal Lists

Deal lists are extremely customizable, they can cater to almost any kind of pipeline you are tracking, or a list of companies and/or contacts you need to create.

If you are a 4Degrees admin - go to the 3-dot menu and select “create new list” to start building your deal list - or select “upload .csv” to transfer your existing list into 4Degrees.
